he Apple Mac mini now features Apple’s pro-level M2 Pro 10-Core chip, making it suitable for anything from rich presentations to immersive gaming or more intensive tasks like editing massive images and 8K ProRes video. The Apple M2 Pro integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC), this time utilizing 2nd-Gen 5nm process technology. Compared to the previous generation Mac mini with M1, users will be able to transcode ProRes video in Final Cut Pro up to 4.2x faster and simultaneously play back up to five streams of 8K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps, or up to 23 streams of 4K ProRes 422 video at 30 fps. It also offers up to 2.5x graphics performance in Affinity Pro. This is possible thanks to the M2 Pro’s faster next-generation CPU and GPU, higher bandwidth memory, and a more powerful media engine for improved performance and power efficiency that includes an advanced thermal system for greater sustained performance. Adding to the Mac mini’s power is 16GB of RAM and, thanks to the addition of Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax), wireless networking will operate at up to 2.4 Gb/s.
The 16-Core GPU delivers a sharp, clear picture, and you’ll be able to output video to an external display, using the system’s Thunderbolt 4 ports, which feature native DisplayPort output, or use the built-in HDMI port. This Mac mini supports up to three simultaneous displays, with two 6K 60 Hz displays via Thunderbolt and one 4K / 60 Hz display over HDMI. Or, simultaneously connect one 6K / 60 Hz and one 4K / 144 Hz display over Thunderbolt. For even greater resolution and refresh rates, this Mac mini supports on 8K / 60 Hz display or one 4K / 240 Hz display.
For storing your files, this Mac mini is equipped with a 512GB SSD. If you want to add external peripherals, four Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 ports that support bidirectional transfer speeds of up to 40 Gb/s as well as 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 2, plus charging and power for external devices. Thanks to two 5 Gb/s USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, you’ll still be able to connect other devices to this system. A Gigabit Ethernet is built in for wired networking, or use Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) for wireless access. Bluetooth 5.3 technology will allow you to connect additional compatible peripherals, including keyboards, mice, and headsets. Sound is output using a 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple’s Mac mini operates using an internal 185W power supply that runs off 100-240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz.
This Mac comes preloaded with macOS. Updates can be downloaded for free via the Mac App Store. Please check Apple’s website for upgrade eligibility. Also, please be aware that a keyboard and mouse are not included.
